Abrams’ "Lost" he received an almost completely different cast

Narrative

Survivors of a plane crash are forced to work together to survive on a seemingly deserted tropical island… J.J. See which A-listers missed one of the most popular TV shows of all time. Sawyer’s character was originally intended to be an older, slick, suit-wearing urban con artist from Buffalo, New York. However, when Josh Holloway forgot a line in his audition and then kicked a chair and cursed loudly in frustration, the writers liked the edge he brought to Sawyer’s character and decided to write Sawyer as more of a southern, darker drifter. Jin and Sun are married and share the family name „Kwon“, which becomes an important plot point in the final season. However, when Koreans marry, the wife never takes her husband’s family name.

The strange opening credits are by J.J. Abrams on his laptop in black and white as an homage to The Twilight Zone. Recently, so many high-quality shows have ended or been canceled (Friends, Frasier, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel) and many others have deteriorated (The West Wing, Smallville), not to mention a noticeable increase in ugliness. and tasteless "reality" I would almost describe programming, TV as an entertainment medium. I seriously considered giving up my TV and cable subscriptions in favor of a computer screen and broadband.

Then comes „Lost“

I missed the first few episodes, but thanks to BitTorrent I managed to catch up. I’m hooked now. There are several things I like about this show, but here’s a quick list: 1) Outstanding, intelligent, diverse writing. There are many mysteries here, and with every answer we get, new questions arise. 2) Rich, complex characters. Just when you think you’re hooked on a character, you learn something new about them that’s often surprising or shocking. I enjoy watching the formation and development of various relationships.

3) Strong performances. It’s a remarkable cast of mostly first-time actors with a few newcomers, and they all do stellar work. There were even some cameos by recognizable, talented actors (e.g. 4) Mysterious and fascinating environment. Of the four main story elements learned in school, plot, character, theme, and setting, the latter is often the poor, neglected cousin. Not here. The island is dangerous, beautiful, creepy and undeniably exciting.

It’s like a character in itself

Part of the fun of the show is unraveling the secrets of the Island. 5) Thematic depth. This is not just a soap opera on a desert island. Rich metaphors and themes can be mined here, such as the challenges of morality; on the nature of communities and civilization; about our relationship with nature/environment; and about spirituality and even mysticism. I am grateful to see this show as a hit. Too often lately, I’ve committed to a quality show („Wonderfalls“ being the latest and most unfortunate example), only to have a nervous network cut it short. I hope the "Lost" it will be long and successful – if the creators, cast and crew maintain the level of quality they’ve shown so far, I’m sure it will be successful.
