Narrative
An author returns to his hometown of Jerusalem’s Lot in search of inspiration for his next book, only to find that the townspeople are under attack by a bloodthirsty vampire. He wants to move away from the more sensual and romanticized undead that have infested pop culture for much of the last quarter century, thanks to everything from Interview with the Vampire to Twilight and The Vampire Diaries. When Ben reads old newspapers on microfilm at the library, a headline reads „Local Couple Falls Victim of DUI.“ The paper was printed in 1956, at a time when the term „DUI“ was not yet in use. This is a testament to King’s work

First, I have to say that even when a Stephen King adaptation is weak, at least it’s still watchable. This movie is lucky to be a King movie. That being said, it is very mediocre.
But every aspect of the evolving story is abandoned
At the beginning of the movie I was very excited, everything seemed fine, the atmosphere of discomfort was there and it felt very King. Very quickly we reached a point where people simply disappeared from the city. It happens so fast and the remaining humans just „know“ that vampires are the cause. They also seem to instantly know who the main vampire is and that makes no sense.
Also no blood
I’ve seen some incredibly bad horror movies in my life and this one isn’t bad, it’s just really fast. In a vampire movie. Mercy. If it was an 8 to 10 episode miniseries it would have worked.
The elements are there
The distribution is there. I have to give credit for sticking to the source material, it shows that the creators understood what they were working on. The last season of "What we do in the shadows" is one of the biggest TV and streaming debuts this month. Check out our October calendar for more!
